Have you ever seen the snow? Not just snow, but the snow. Snow that blankets the world and keeps it hostage in a prison of ice.

Have you ever viewed the fairy-tale wonderland that sparkles like starry clouds and shines with a delight all its own? Was it spread out before you so that you could gaze from your vantage point and see the signs of a town in the distance? Can you feel the icy chill that washes your face clean and freezes your ears and nose? Do you see the brightness that could blind you? In your boots are you wriggling your toes and waiting for snow to seep through and soggy your socks? Do your fingers long to grab the snow and pack it into balls of fluffy devilment?

I am from the snow. I was born in Iowa, at home, between two blizzards. Snow is my companion in the winter and I miss it terribly here in California.

In the winter time I find my delight in making snow angels and snowmen and in simply kicking the frozen land. Icicles hang from branches and provide swords for little children to play-fight with. Others suck on them for a drink and disregard what others think. My nose grows cold and damp, my cheeks are red and warm, my friends are having snowball fights in this land of simple charm. I wander here and wander there and in my mind I wonder, is this all just for me or do I have to share? My ears are chilled and pink, my earrings feel like ice. Yet still out here I do remain, staring at the earth, entirely white and yet not plain. Everywhere I look I see beauty that many forsook to travel south and miss the wind that blows upon their doors. For myself I'll stay, for eternity if I may. The snow is home to me and home is never bare. With all its sparkles, glitter and shine the snow is everyones and yet mostly mine. For I am from the snow, born between two blizzards, in that warm Iowan home.
The full title unfortunately doesn't fit. "Have you ever been to visit the snow?"
I felt a strong need to visit the snow today so since I can't get out to where I want to go I'll simply write it down. Parts of it are rhythmic and rhyme but it's more a short story/ memory. They don't have a section for these types of works so it went into the general non-fiction sub-heading. I am originally from the wintry land of Iowa and I do occasionally make trips back there with my parents to visit our family and friends, and to visit the snow. I would appreciate comments, both compliments and critiques. Please help me to improve in my writing style as it is something I pride myself on and, up until coming to DA, considered myself to be better at than most people. Since then I've had my pride properly knocked down a bit.
